Other barriers against their bad luck include greeting it with “Good morning mister magpie,” or “Good morning Sir.”
Upon seeing a group of magpies, remind yourself of their prediction with this rhyme:
One for sorrow,
Two for joy,
Three for a girl,
Four for a boy,
Five for silver,
Six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told.
My mum taught me this one, but there are may other versions. All of them, however, agree that one magpie brings nothing but bad tidings.
